“We are funded by an ADECA grant and it covers all violent crimes,” said Katy Lewis, Wiregrass Angel House Outreach Advocate. “Whether it be homicide, assault, burglary or rape, we service victims in the Wiregrass area that are affected by those types of crimes.”

Many times, people don’t know what to do after they or a loved one becomes a victim. That’s when the Angel House gets called in.

“We do everything from just sitting with them and holding a hand to answering a phone call at three o’clock in the morning, funeral arrangements and court assistance,” Lewis said. “We also do crime scene clean-up.”

Most of the time, you’ll only see these groups together at crime scenes but the golf tournament changes that.

“Most of the time, when we come together and we see each other, something awful has happened,” Lewis explained. “It’s work and it’s hard and it’s sad and for something like the golf tournament or Family Fun Day, it’s nice to be around each other and get to know each other a little better so that we can work better together to serve our families.”
